Useful Accessories

To get the best out of the SailTracker system you'll want the phone transponder to have as good a skyview as possible, be protected from the elements, and stay powered on the entire race. The below accessories handle those issues for you. All of these components can be sourced from online retailers or in some cases Fry's Electronics.

  • An auxiliary battery adapter, such as the model sold by PPCtechs, uses 4xAA batteries with a USB power port for output. This will provide a significant boost to the run time of the phone (length of charge boost varies by model). Having an auxiliary battery adapter allows you to install new AA batteries if the system becomes low on charge rather than taking the phone down to attach to a charger.

  • A USB car charger adapter is handy to recharge your phone should you not have an auxiliary battery adapter as mentioned above. If your boat has a power inverter you can of course also use the provided wall charger.

  • A USB cable to fit your phone to the auxiliary battery adapter or the USB car charger adapter. Shown here is a mini-USB to standard USB cable with a 90-degree bend to fit in tight places (such as a waterproof case..)

  • A Pelican waterproof case will keep the transponder phone dry. Model 1020 is compact and fits the Motorola i290/i335 transponder phones with enough room for the auxiliary battery adapter and USB cable.

  • If you don't want to source the above accessories yourself I can provide them as a package to you. The cost for a complete accessory package is $45. If purchased with a Motorola i290/i335 transponder phone the total package cost is $75. The transponder package is then yours to reuse in the future. Contact me about this option.
